A free reverse phone lookup for the UK
When an unknown number rings, who called me is the question everyone asks — and this free tool answers it. Type any UK number into the search above and instantly see the number type (mobile, landline, freephone, premium-rate), the area it comes from, and an honest spam-risk estimate. No sign-up, no app, no fees.
It’s called a reverse phone lookup because it works backwards: instead of finding a number for a name, you find information from the number. Who Called Me does this using public UK numbering ranges, so results are instant and free — though we can’t reveal the caller’s name, and no free tool honestly can.
From number to answers in under a second
Every UK number follows a public dialling plan — the first digits reveal the type and often the area. Our lookup reads those prefixes: 020 means a London landline, 07 a mobile, 0800 freephone, 09 premium-rate, and 070 a personal number that’s often abused by scammers.
Combine that with community spam reports, and you get a clear picture before you decide to call back — which is exactly when a who called me UK check pays for itself.
Don’t call back blind
Missed a call from a number you don’t recognise? The safest move is a 10-second check, not a callback — calling back premium-rate or personal numbers can cost you real money. Enter the number above first: if it’s a London landline or a known business range, call back with confidence. If it flags as high risk, let it go.
And if it was a scam, hit Report this number on the result — your report warns the next person who asks who called me about the same caller.
Know the patterns — most scam calls follow one of these scripts
Callers pretend to be from HM Revenue & Customs, claiming you owe tax or are due a refund, and pressure you to pay or share bank details immediately. HMRC will never demand payment this way.
A caller claims to be from your bank’s fraud team, warns of suspicious activity, then asks for card details or a transfer to a “safe account”. Real banks never ask for these on an incoming call.
A text or call claims a parcel couldn’t be delivered and asks you to pay a redelivery fee or click a link. Delivery companies don’t operate this way.
You answer and hear nothing. These usually come from automated diallers used in telemarketing — unsettling, but often not a scam.

Everything you need to know about reverse phone lookup
Yes — completely free and unlimited. No sign-up, no app, no payment details. Just type the number and get your answer.
Any UK number: mobiles (07), geographic landlines (01 and 02), freephone (0800, 0808), service numbers (03), premium-rate numbers (09) and personal numbers (070). Non-UK numbers aren’t supported.
070 numbers are “personal numbers” that forward to another phone — not mobiles, despite starting with 07. They can be expensive to call and are frequently used in scams.
Honestly, no — a phone number alone doesn’t reveal its owner, and we don’t have access to carrier databases. The number type, area and risk level are usually enough to decide whether a call deserves a callback.
Use the “Report this number” button on any lookup result to warn other visitors. For official action, report fraud to Action Fraud, the UK’s national fraud reporting centre.
On iPhone: Phone app > Recents > info icon > Block this Caller. On Android: Phone app > Recents > tap the number > Block. You can also register free with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) to stop unsolicited marketing calls.
